Ale
Uwa

Since 2012, community leaders in Ale Uwa have envisioned transforming their community with support from groups across the world to provide access to high-quality primary and secondary education and community-based healthcare. Individuals and groups have done extraordinary work in supporting that vision, and continue to partner with leaders in Ale Uwa to overcome challenges in reaching their goal. Continued support is needed to fulfill the promise of schooling through 12th grade being accessible to all of the students in the community.

2013

Fundraising begins for Ale Uwa School and Community at CrossWalk Church in Loma Linda, CA. The congregation begins a series of fundraising effort with the objective of supporting clean water, upgraded latrines, and medical supplies for the primary school and health clinic in Ale Uwa.

2014

Ale Uwa receives donations of funds to support the upgrading of water supply and new latrines from CrossWalk Church, as well as $1,000 for the purchase of new textbooks to support students at the primary school. This donation was provided through the recycling efforts of students at Fontana High School and support from Suntree Foundation. Community and School leaders discuss next steps in the project, including an objective of raising funds to upgrade the library and classrooms in the primary school. Leaders also envision a secondary school to continue the education of students in Ale Uwa and the surrounding communities.

2015

Fundraising continues for Ale Uwa, with efforts at Fontana High School contributing toward the purchase of classroom materials such as desks, benches, and chalkboards. In December 2015, a delegation visits Ale Uwa to directly support efforts to improve the primary school. The library and classrooms are renovated with a new cement floor and include skylights to allow in more light and improve the classroom experience. Community leaders discuss and begin preparations for construction of a 9th and 10th grade school building to be constructed from robust cement blocks. The blocks will be manufactured on site by local community members using local materials.

2017

Additional fundraising by Fontana High School and a group of private donors allow the construction of the 9th and 10th grade school buildings to move forward. A delegation visits Ale Uwa again in December to assist in the construction of the school buildings. Good progress is made over the next year, and plans are made to complete and open the secondary school in 2018.

2019

Construction of the 9th grade classroom block is completed. Students from the surrounding communities express great interest in attending the school. Up to 600 attempt to enroll in the first year. Ale Uwa excitedly welcomes students into high school, and looks forward to building out the rest of the campus to support many more. Work begins to raise funds for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade classes.

2022

Work to continually support the growth and development of Ale Uwa primary and secondary schools continues. Work is also ongoing to support the medical clinic, and offer students vocational training after they have completed 12th grade.

This work would not be possible without the generous support of donors. Donations have driven the efforts to support Ale Uwa since 2013, and will be essential in realizing the vision of a thriving school and community.
